LIMESTONE POWDER
Limestone powder is the finely-dispersed product obtained by mechanical calcareous ore degradation. Powder appearance: stone.
Proposed new and conventional limestone weighting agent consists of carbonate rocks and has the following chemical formula CаСО3.
Limestone powder density is equal to 2700 kg/m3 and has property to be dissolved completely in hydrochloric acid. Such advantage of limestone powder provides retention of natural reservoir characteristics of productive formation. As a result of this, oil and gas well productive capacity increases. Weighted drilling muds with a density of 1500-1600 kg/m3 can be prepared by means of limestone powder.
Limestone powder, due to the physiochemical parameters and structural features, has a number of the following qualities which distinguish it from chalk and other varieties of calcium carbonate:
- high calcium carbonate concentration (more than 98.0-99.0%);
- high grain strength;
- low porosity and water absorption;
- high refractivity;
- low content of coloring iron, manganese, titanium and cobalt oxides, and, consequently, high whiteness index;
- low content of water-soluble salts;
- high inorganic acid solubility;
- low resistance to UV radiation.
