Description
The mineral representing water sulfate of CaSO4 calcium2H2O (32,5% of CaO; 46,6% of SO3; 20,9% of H2), meet in the nature in the form of crystals of tolstotablitchaty, prismatic and column shape, doubles like "larkspur" and units from which distinguish several versions: coarse-crystalline, listovaty, fibrous and saccharoidal. Hardness of plaster 1,5-2,0, density of 2,3 g/cm3, color white, gray, is more rare yellow and pink, a spaynost very perfect. Plaster possesses noticeable solubility in water which increases at temperature increase to 41 °C, and then quickly falls. When heating plaster loses water, turning at first into semi-hydrate of CaSO4l/2 H2O, and then in waterless CaSO4 sulfate. The dehydrated plaster at contact with water forms viscous substance which quickly turns into dense firm weight. Industrial use of plaster as the knitting material is based on this property (skhvatyvaniye).

And N of and d r and t - the mineral representing waterless sulfate of CaSO4 calcium (41,2% of CaO; 58,8% of SO3), usually meet in the form of continuous fine-grained mramorovidny masses, is more rare - in the form of crystals of tablitchaty and prismatic shape. Color is white, grayish, is more rare blue, pink or dark gray (at the expense of impurity). Hardness of anhydrite 3-3,5, density of 2,8-3,0 g/cm3, a spaynost perfect, in water is dissolved worse than plaster. Anhydrite possesses the knitting properties.

Plaster and anhydrite, as a rule, occur in common among sedimentary deposits, forming deposits of almost monomineral breeds called as well as minerals - plaster and anhydrite. Their usual impurity - clay substance, quartz, carbonates, ship's biscuits, bituminous substance, etc. Also plaster educations consisting of mix of the smallest crystals of plaster with sand-and izvestkovisto-clay material are known (a sheetrock, ganch, etc.).

Gypsiferous thicknesses are usually presented by alternation of deposits of plaster (anhydrite) with limestones, dolomite, mergelyam and clays which can also have industrial value and be developed along with plaster (anhydrite). Sometimes powerful uniform deposits of plaster (anhydrite) in which section are almost absent meet interlay or lenses of other breeds.

Due to the high solubility of plaster in gypsiferous thicknesses the karst in the form of superficial funnels and internal channels of big extent often develops.

Now in the industry plaster is generally used. Anhydrite in connection with chemical instability within small depths is extracted in limited quantities so far, however the tendency of growth of its consumption, especially in the cement industry is planned.

The main properties of plaster, the small density, low heat conductivity, a whiteness, low hardness, fire resistance, thermal stability, solubility in water and dr are
