Dolomite — a mineral from a class of carbonates of a chemical composition CaCO3 • MgCO3; dolomite call also sedimentary carbonate rock consisting of a dolomite mineral for 95 % and more. Received the name in honor of the French engineer and geologist Déodat de Dolomiio (1750—1801) which described signs of dolomitic breeds.
Chemical composition: CaO — 30,4 %, MgO — 21,7 %, CO2 — 47,9 %. The maintenance of CaO and MgO often fluctuate in small limits. Isomorphic impurity: Fe, sometimes Mn (to several percent), occasionally Zn, Ni, Co (in red dolomite from Prshibram, in Czechoslovakia (present territory of the Czech Republic) the maintenance of CoCO3 reached 7,5 %). Cases of inclusions in crystals of dolomite of bitumens and other foreign substances are known.
