Stone sandstone - irreplaceable construction material in finishing works

SANDSTONE is the natural stone of a sedimentary origin consisting generally of quartz particles which communicate among themselves by means of other minerals, such as silicon dioxide and a carbonate. On mineral structure, the physicomechanical SANDSTONE properties not much more concedes to granite and quartzite. Very often SANDSTONE contains iron ores which give it attractive coloring. Color of sandstone can change from white (light gray), beige to red, brown and even green and blue. This type of a stone is very durable since quartzite is its part. SANDSTONE is a stone of generally average hardness though there are its very dense versions which are not conceding on hardness to granites. Strength at compression — 300-2000 kg/cm2, porosity of 0,69-6,70%, water absorption of 0,63-6,0%.

By the prevailing size of grains SANDSTONE, as well as sand, are divided on fine-grained (from 0,1-0,25 mm), medium-grained (0,25-0,5 mm), coarse-grained (0,5 mm), and on mineralogical structure — into mono and polymineral quartz, arkozovy sandstones and grauvakk. SANDSTONES still call PSAMMITAMI.

The highest physicomechanical properties SANDSTONE with the siliceous and carbonate cementing substance has, the worst — with clay. Fire resistance of sandstone is also various, the highest (do1700 �C) is characteristic of pure quartz sandstones, with siliceous cement.

Examples of application: facing of facades and socles of buildings, fences, a paving of paths and platforms, a rubble stone, crushed stone of different function (for road construction and as filler in concrete), landscaping. In an interior it is used, generally in the form of a tile for facing of steps, fireplaces, and also a floor and walls.

The set of the well-known architectural objects and Wonders of the world is constructed of sandstone.
