Magnesite powder is received roasting at 1700 — 2000 °C in the rotating or mine furnaces of Magnesite or others, mainly hydrated, compounds of magnesium. The last can be natural (brucite) or got in the chemical way from salts of sea water (less often) of magniysoderzhashchy minerals (dolomite, bischofite and others).
Powder consists of grains fineness to 5 — 15 mm with porosity of 5 — 20%, its fire resistance of 2300 — 2800 °C (depending on purity).
Powder is applied for podin steel-smelting martin and arc furnaces and to production of magnesian fire-resistant products among which as magnesite (periclase) consider the containing more than 90% of MgO, and magnesite on different sheaves — more than 80% of MgO.
Melting of magnesite powder in arc furnaces receive the fused periclase going after crushing for production of fire-resistant products for stuffing of crucibles of induction melting furnaces, and especially pure — for the electrotechnical purposes. Cut out also integral fire-resistant products with porosity, close to zero, from the built-up blocks of periclase.
