Black cumin (Nigella Sativa) is a medicinal plant belonging to the Ranunculaceae family. The seeds turn black when ripe, are characterized by a pyramidal shape, a specific burning taste and a spicy carvonic aroma. Despite the vastness of its distribution area, it is mainly cultivated in the Arabian Peninsula, the Mediterranean and South Asian regions and in northern Africa, which is due to both the climatic factor and historical traditions.
