Mini Fragment Implants

Internal fixation of fractures in the hand and the foot has gained favor in recent years. The goal of providing the stability needed for early postoperative mobilization in large bones also applies to smaller bones. This same basic principle of stable internal fixation and open reduction apply, only the size of implants differs. The trend toward using small implants has led to the development of several different sizes and types. All the implants are now available in titanium as well as in stainless steel.

The implants are delicate as are the instruments needed for their application. They are intended to be handled with skill, not the force.

Mini Fragment Screws

The mini fragment screws, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.7 mm cortex screws, are used as lag screw or as plate fixation screws. In small-sized bones the cancellous bone is rather dense, enabling the use of cortex screws also in the metaphyseal and epiphyseal areas.
