This protective film of compounds of lithium, in usual conditions, interferes with direct chemical reactions of metal lithium with electrolyte and the main products of reaction. Charging of lithium batteries (not accumulators, namely not recharged batteries, for example CR123) destroys this film and is strictly forbidden. It leads to release and accumulation in the battery of metal lithium, its reaction with electrolyte, to growth of temperature and pressure, and, as a result, leak of toxic gas (via the safety valve), electrolyte, and can lead to ignition or explosion of the battery.
Also can lead zakorachivany batteries or its heating to it. It is impossible to solder wires to the battery household soldering irons and soldering stations - it will break or will alloy protection against a battery overheat, and it will become unsafe. It is impossible to leave the battery under direct sunshine.
