Hydrogen peroxide — the Colorless liquid with "metal" taste, beyond all bounds water soluble, alcohol and ether. The concentrated aqueous solutions are explosive.
Hydrogen peroxide belongs to reactive forms of oxygen and at the increased education in cage causes oxidative stress. Some enzymes, for example glyukozoksidaza, form hydrogen peroxide which can play protective role as the bactericidal agent during oxidation reduction reaction. In cages of mammals there are no enzymes which would recover oxygen to hydrogen peroxide.
Thanks to the strong oxidizing properties hydrogen peroxide has found broad application in life and in the industry where it is used, for example, as bleach on textile production and at paper production. It is applied as rocket fuel — as oxidizer or as one-component (with decomposition on the catalyst). It is used in analytical chemistry, in medicine, as frother by production of porous materials, in production of disinfecting and bleaching agents. In the industry hydrogen peroxide also finds the application as the catalyst, the hydrogenant agent as the epoxidizing agent at epoxidation of olefins. In medicine solutions of hydrogen peroxide are applied as antiseptic. At contact with the injured skin and mucous hydrogen peroxide under the influence of enzyme of catalase breaks up with release of oxygen that promotes turning of blood and creates adverse conditions for development of microorganisms. However such action is short and has weak effect. Nevertheless, hydrogen peroxide (the pharmaceutical name — hydrogen peroxide, 3%) is applied at roughing-out of wounds (including opened). Hydrogen peroxide is very effective for treatment of small scratches, especially at children — it does not "pinch", has no smell, is colourless. However it can cause small burning around open wound. The cost of bubble of 40 ml of such solution — no more than 100 tenges. In the food industry solutions of hydrogen peroxide are applied to disinfection of the technology surfaces of the equipment which are directly adjoining to products. Besides, at the enterprises for production of dairy products, juice, penozones are used for disinfection of packaging (Tetra Pak technology). To the technical purposes hydrogen peroxide is applied in production of electronic equipment.
Hydrogen peroxide is applied also to decolorization of hair and bleaching of teeth, however the effect in both cases is based on oxidation and consequently, destruction of fabrics and therefore such application (especially concerning teeth) is not recommended by specialists.
In life it is applied also to removal of spots of MnO2 which have turned out at interaction of potassium permanganate of "potassium permanganate" with objects (in view of its oxidizing properties).
