Sodium hypochlorite (sodium hypochlorite) — NaOCl, inorganic compound, sodium hipochlorite. The generic (historical) name of aqueous solution of salt — labarrakov water or javel water.
Use of hyposodium chloride:
Household use includes:
- use as means for disinfection and antibacterial processing,
- use for bleaching of fabrics,
- chemical dissolution of sanitary deposits.
Industrial use includes:
- industrial bleaching of fabric, mechanical wood pulp and some other products,
- industrial disinfection and sanitary and hygienic processing,
- cleaning and disinfection of drinking water for systems of utility water supply,
- cleaning and disinfecting of industrial drains,
- chemical production.
Application in medicine:
Use of sodium hypochlorite for disinfection of wounds was for the first time offered no later than 1915. In modern medical practice antiseptic solutions of sodium hypochlorite are used, generally for outside and local application as antiviral, antifungal and bactericidal means when processing skin, mucous membranes and wounds.
Hypochlorite is active concerning many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, the majority of pathogenic mushrooms, viruses and protozoa though its efficiency decreases in the presence of blood or its components.
