As already mentioned, the machine got its name because of the similarity of the shape of the working chamber of a cylindrical container to a drum. In drum - type shotguns, parts that are resistant to tilting are usually cleaned, which are not afraid of damage from impacts against each other. For uniform cleaning on all sides, the shape of the parts should allow them to roll during processing. Flat blanks can slip through the conveyor and be well cleaned on one side and dirty on the other.

Conveyor and turbines

A belt or track conveyor is an endless belt that moves along two side discs and one drum, forming the shape of a drum (barrel) open at the top. All this happens inside a closed case made of wear - resistant metal (or lined with armor).

Shot - blasting turbines (one or several, depending on the need) are installed on the ceiling of the chamber, from which a stream of shot is thrown onto the parts. At the same time, the parts roll inside the drum, substituting all sides for the streams of shot. It is important to arrange the turbines so that a uniform flow is ensured across the entire width of the workspace.

To check the real position of the hot spot, you need to place a sheet of metal about 500 mm wide in the chamber of the drum - type shot blaster and put two more pieces of metal along the side disks. After starting the shot supply without moving the conveyor, a trace of the turbine torch will remain on the sheets. If there are several turbines, then the specified action is done several times. It is necessary to determine the position of the spot from each turbine. Thus, you need to expose the stain and place it in the working area.

Loading and unloading of parts is done through the side door. The door drive can be pneumatic or mechanical. Depending on the size and capacity, loading can be done manually or with a skip hoist. Unloading can be done either in a separate container or on a conveyor. A vibrating conveyor usually works best.

Drum shot blasters work stably only with strict observance of the operating rules. The main ones are: keeping the hopper always full, correct separator adjustments, maintaining the load on the turbines and setting rational cleaning times.

The right choice of shot for a shot blaster is one of the key factors in the efficiency of work and the cost of cleaning. It is best to use hardened and tempered to a hardness of 40 - 52 HRc, steel shot. Do not be afraid of increased wear due to the chipped shape. The main parameter causing wear is hardness. The shape has very little effect on the life of the parts. At the same time, chipped shot of the specified hardness provides an increase in productivity by about 15 - 20% and provides the lowest cost. Softer shot sharply reduces productivity, which increases cleaning time and energy consumption, while harder shot significantly increases the wear of machine parts.
