Education & Careers Expo
Organizer:Hong Kong Trade Development Council
Statistics 2012 year
HKTDC Education & Careers Expo 2013 brings educational and training institutions, corporations, professional associations and government bodies into direct contact with their target audience. In 2012 the Expo featured 720 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions: Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, Chinese mainland, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Macau, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, UK and USA. Students and job seekers, whether new to the market or seeking a professional upgrade, came to the Expo seeking an understanding of the current education or employment situation and the options available to them.
Positioned for the market
Traditionally - and this is the 23rd edition - Education & Careers Expo meets the immediate needs of an ever-changing labour market. As global economic conditions change and industries evolve, the emphasis of the Expo changes, responding to contemporary market demands by highlighting exhibitor strengths through its themes and events.
Hong Kong has long recognised the advantage to its workforce of broad international exposure. Many Hong Kong students plan to study abroad, especially for university and post-graduate degrees and specialist qualifications. Educational institutions from different countries are highlighted in Theme Days.
The four theme days featured in the Expo 2012 were Study in the Chinese mainland, Study in Europe, Australian Education Day, and Study in the United States.
Celebrities lead the way
Stimulating the interest of visitors are Celebrity Sharing Sessions which feature well-known, successful people from various fields. In 2012, Mag Lam, winner of the television singing contest Super Voice 2, Dr Sammy Lam, drama scholar and Kearen Pang, multimedia producer, led sessions on the creative and performing arts while experts from different sectors, such as Nelson Chow, Chairman of the Hong Kong Sommelier Association, and Professor Joseph Wong, Visiting Professor of City University of Hong Kong, came to share their valuable insights for the related industries.
The value of events
The enduring popularity of Education & Careers Expo lies in its value to its visitors which in turn guarantees exhibitors a vast pool of potential. This value comes in the form of over 60 events, all designed to enhance the visitor experience. As well as Theme Days and Celebrity Sharing Sessions there are workshops giving valuable insights on topics such as CV and cover- letter writing, English for business communication, interview skills and personality profiling.
Giving prominence to exhibitors
As students and job-seekers have different needs, exhibitors are zoned into two sectors: the Education Zone and the Careers Zone. Zoning places exhibitors within quick and easy reach of the right visitors.
The Education Zone has two dedicated areas - 'Hong Kong' and 'Outside Hong Kong'. Schools, colleges, universities, language schools, vocational training bodies and related institutions exhibit here.
The Careers Zone is home to commercial enterprises of all kinds, government departments, semi-government organisations, professional associations and recruitment media.
