Carved panel - a reproduction of a picture of V. G. Perov - "Hunters on a halt". - with a frame under silver
The picture was painted by Perov in 1871, by this time the artist already departed from the image of sad pictures of national life by what the first half of the period of his creativity was sated.
In a picture three hunters who carry on among themselves conversation are represented. The main line of a picture are psychological portraits of heroes: one of them (at the left) — the elderly, skilled hunter, probably, from the become scanty noblemen excitedly and passion telling about hunting "feats", the second (on the second plan) — average years, in the Russian country clothes, it is mistrustful also with a grin listening to hunting baizes of the interlocutor, the third (on the right) — the dressed "very clean" trustful young beginner tremblingly listening to cock-and-bull stories of the first hunter, so confused it that he even forgets to light a cigarette in the right hand the spark prepared in left.
All this scene occurs against quite gloomy autumn landscape that the disturbing shade brings in its comic contents.
Curiously as well a combination in a picture of both a genre household picture, and a landscape, and a still life from hunting things and a game.
Vasily Grigoryevich Perov was a passionate hunter. For this reason the hunting subject was well familiar to it. Still to "Hunters …" Perov in 1870 paints the picture "Fowler" for which he is entitled professor, and also the place of the teacher in the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture. Within the 70th years the artist also creates some more pictures devoted to "hunting subject": "Fisher" (1871), "Botanist" (1874), "Pigeon fancier" (1874), "Fishing" (1878).
In 1877 the artist wrote repetition of a picture which is stored in the State Russian Museum, the original is in Moscow in the State Tretyakov gallery.
