Description
The capelin, or uyok (Latin Mallotus villosus) — sea fish of family of smelts.
Length of a body is up to 22 cm, weight to 65 g. The capelin has very small scales and small teeth. The back is olive-greenish, sides and a belly silvery. Males differ in existence on sides of a strip of scales, at each of which there is a similarity of pile.
The capelin is widespread almost krugopolyarno, in the Arctic and northern parts of the Atlantic and Quiet oceans. Meets: in Northern Atlantic — the Barents Sea to the lake. Bear, the Norwegian Sea to Spitsbergen, the coast of Greenland (to 74 °C. highway) and from Hudson Bay to the gulf Man (USA); in the north of the Pacific Ocean — to Korea and the island Vancouver (Canada)
