Areometers of general purpose of the AON-1 type are used for measurement of density of liquid from 700 to 1840 kg/m3 with the price of division of 1 kg/m3 (salt and acid solutions, various acids, salts, cement, concrete). The areometers AON-1 are issued also in the form of a set of 19 devices.

Areometers of general purpose of the AON-2 type are used for measurement of density of liquid from 1000 to 2000 kg/m3 with the price of division of 1 kg/m3.

Areometers of general purpose of the AON-3 type are used for measurement of density of liquid from 1000 to 1800 kg/m3.

Areometers of general purpose of the AON-4 type are used for measurement of density of liquid from 700 to 1800 kg/m3.

The areometer — the device for measurement of density of liquids which principle of work is based on Archimedes's Law. It is considered that the areometer was invented by Gipatiya.

Usually represents a glass tube which lower part at calibration is filled with fraction or mercury for achievement of necessary weight. In the top, narrow part there is a scale which is graduated in values of density of solution or concentration of the dissolved substance. Density of solution equals to the relation of mass of the areometer to volume on which it plunges into liquid. Respectively, distinguish areometers of constant volume and areometers of constant weight.
